Jane Kuta's European Adoption Story:

Jane Kuta’s European Hedgehog, Wellington, at Hedgehog Friends of Denmark.

June 4th, 2003

My Hedgie is with Kis, who is taking great care of him and hopes he will be released back to the wild in just a couple of weeks. It seems that there are a couple of heroes in this story-Kis, for being so wonderful to take him in and rehab him and a dog, who found him in the bottom of an empty pool in heavy rain. We have decided to name him Wellington.

Wellington sounds like he will do well when he heals, he is a healthy 1145 grams. After falling approximately 2 1/2 meters into the pool, his leg was injured but thankfully not broken. Therefore, he must stay in a small box so it can heal. He doesn't like this at all (he can smell the ladies!) but will have to wait for his return to nature and find his own ladies! He also has pnuemonia which he is taking antibiotics for. He takes his medicine like a MAN I am told. Not sure if that means he's taking it well or fighting it all the way (we know how men can be when they are sick! HaHa!) I am so happy to be able to help a hedgehog all the way around the world! What a great feeling it gives me!

I also got a wonderful picture of Wellington! He is SUCH a cute guy! I am going to frame it for my Hedgie picture wall so we can always remember the adorable European hedgehog we were able to assist in healing.

My Wellington, (Euro hedgie adoptee at Kis') seems to be a success story! Yeah Kis! Great work! For those that may have missed the original post, Wellington was found in a pool with a hurt leg and pnuemonia.

Kis reports that Wellington was released on June 22nd after some major rains had passed. With just recovering from pnuemonia, it was best to wait for a bit better weather! Anyway, Wellington has been released into a garden where there is someone to spoil him with treats and will leave fresh water for him-if he chooses to stick around. I am so glad he is well and can go back to a normal life in the wild. We will always remember him with a beautiful picture we received that has center stage on the hedgie shelf above our hedgie commons.

Thanks Kis and keep up the GREAT work!!!

Jane
