| HWS European Hedgehog Awareness Month - June 2003 |
Keeping in theme with European Hedgehog Awareness Month, this area is dedicated to raising your awareness of a campaign against the dangers of the McDonald's "McFlurry" lids. These ice cream containers pose a serious threat to European hedgehogs, who are sticking their heads through the opening of the lid, becoming trapped by their quills, and ending in the death of the hedgehog. Our goal is to hold McDonald's accountable for the dangerous lids they are producing for their popular "McFlurry" dessert.
It's a well known fact that online petitions and e-mail based campaigns aren't as effective as snail mail campaigns, which is why our main goal is to get everyone to take a few minutes out of their busy day and write a handwritten letter (NOT a form letter) directly to McDonald's, expressing our disappointment with their decision to continue manufacturing these lids after well over a year of our initial pleas for a change.
We are not suggesting a boycott of McDonald's products; rather, we want to raise their awareness of how continuing to manufacture and sell a product that is this life threatening to European hedgehogs reflects upon their good company name, not only in Europe but the USA as well.

You can help by sending letters to McDonald's at:
McDonald's Restaurants Ltd.

And/or by calling them at:

Postage to the UK for the first ounce (a one page letter plus envelope, usually) is $0.80; so you could put enough stamps (3 First Class stamps) to cover it via regular mail, but you'd be wasting $0.31. However, it would save you a trip to the post office for an $0.80 stamp.
We thank you for your support on behalf of millions of European hedgehogs!
