Sample letter one:
To whom it may concern:
I write to you as a concerned animal lover. I recently read an article
about the dangers your ice cream containers pose to hedgehogs, who
tend to put their heads through the holes in the lids, becoming trapped
by their quills.
This can lead to grave harm and death. I would ask that you please
change the packaging immediately, to protect these innocent animals. I
realize this imposes a cost upon your company, as you no doubt have
many of the dangerous lids in storage, and would have to find an
alternate source of safe lids. But I would submit that the publicity
engendered by this change would be very good for your company.
I belong to an Internet group of over 500 hedgehog fans; this means
there are over 500 potential customers who would react extremely
favorably to a positive response from you.
Hugs,
Jennifer
Sample letter two:
Fellow Animal Lovers:
I recently read an Internet article (located at:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/animals/newsid_1753000/1753844.stm)
which explained the dangers that your ice cream containers for your McFlurry's
pose to hedgehogs, who are sticking their heads through the opening in the lid,
becoming trapped by their quills, ending in the death of the hedgehog.
I'm asking you to change the packaging of this product immediately, for the
sake
of protecting these innocent animals. I realize this imposes a cost to your
company,
but I ask that you weigh the good against the bad. Money or the life of an
animal?
I also realize that McDonald's has received many honors, one from the Audubon
society, which I read about on the US web site for McDonald's. This quote
gave me
hope:
"The name Audubon is synonymous with environmental protection and wildlife
preservation. McDonald's is honored
by this recognition and pledges to continue in the spirit of this legendary
organization's leadership," said Jack Greenberg,
McDonald's Chairman and CEO, who accepted the award at a New York City
event. "We will continue to learn from
our partnerships with Audubon, Environmental Defense, Conservation
International, Keep America Beautiful, and many
other leadership groups who share our cooperative approach to help make a
difference on environmental issues."
Along with the information on the US web site about your commitment to
Animal Welfare. These two things give
me the hope that this letter has not been written in vain. Please show me
that McDonald's was truly worthy of
these honors.
I belong to an Internet group of over 500 hedgehog owners, breeders, and
enthusiast.
This means that there are over 500 potential customers of your's who would
react
extremely favorably to a positive response from you.
Thank you.
