Jeanne Stanoch's European Adoption Story:

Jeanne Stanoch's European Hedgehog Attla, at Hedgehog Friends of Denmark.

June 7th, 2003

I really need healing thoughts going to DK. A lovely big boy came in here at around 21.00 ( 9 evening :-) ). He is in VERY bad shape. A very bad fox-bite in his forehead...filled with inflammation (I can smell it in the whole house) poor boy. Also he has a deep wound in his side...but that is fresh. My guess is a bird saw he was helpless and tried to get a "free and easy meal" :-(

I lost one little boy this evening ...he was only 332 grams and very dehydrated...people have watch him run around for a week...and didn't think he needed help. His kidney failed :-(

SO...if you have a minute or two...do send healing thoughts to my Fox-bite. He will need it.

Update on my little Euro hedgie boy from Kis. I named him Attla. As of earlier today, he was still with us. Kis explained to me privately the damage maggots from the blue fly can do. I was always under the impression maggots were good for eating rotten tissue, but in this little guy's case these maggots are not good.

Kis is going to do more work with him today, and she is good about keeping me updated. Everyday that he is still with us is one day closer to healing. He is not out of the woods yet, but I am saying prayers for him.

Thanks for asking about him.

Hugs,
Jeanne

Hi Jeanne,

Ooohhhhhhh his wound (s) are healing perfect now. Now I am convinced he will make it. I am very positive...I think he made the final turn last night. He has now gained even more and is now 971 !!!! And grumpy...grumpy...he-he. Still not happy about getting his medication ;-) It is amazing he made it...with that wound, inflammation and maggots...wow.

Hugs,
Kis

Hi Jeanne,

What a great boy he has been :-) Look how "pretty" his wound is now. Our dear friends always amazes me how brave and lovely they are...you should not think it is the same hedgie. BUT do notice his lovely white nail on his left front paw...he-he. It is VERY different what color their nails have. I live in an area where they are a bit mixed white/black nails. In other parts of DK they are all white or all black nails. Tomorrow he will go back "home". The fox is gone...and he lived in their garden for 4 years...I am sure he will be happy to get back home. Thank you so much for your support.

Warm thoughts,
Kis

Hi Jeanne,

Attla was picked up this evening by the people who found him. At the weight of 1,073 grams and as handsome as can be.

Thank you for your sweet support,
Kis
