Advocacy-Pet Store/USDA Liason

Goal: To stop the sale of hedgehogs at non-USDA licensed pet stores and by non-USDA licensed breeders, and to discourage the sale of hedgehogs at USDA licensed pet stores that do not provide educational materials, do not offer a bring-back policy that will care for the hedgehog until an acceptable home is found, do not keep hedgehogs separated by sex while in the store, or do not allow the purchaser to contact the breeder directly with health, care, or lineage questions.

Rescue Coordination

Goal: The HWS Rescue Committee is working to help remove hedgehogs from unacceptable conditions and place them in loving, nurturing homes. The Rescue Committee strives to reduce the number of unwanted, neglected, and abused hedgehogs by supporting the Advocacy Committee and its goals. The Rescue Committee supports the Health and Education Committee in its goals to increase the awareness of hedgehog needs.
Health Research and Education

Goal: The Health Research and Education Committee exists to further research in areas of hedgehog medical conditions and nutrition, as well as to disseminate information to the community at large and especially to the veterinary community.
Rescue Care Packages

Goal: The Rescue Care Packages Committee will ensure that as many rescuers as possible receive a care package containing food, treats, a hat (sheltering fabric home), and a bag (sheltering fabric home) from the HWS.
